Preparing for winter: Don’t forget your pets

As temperatures drop and the rain, sleet, and snow build, it is time to prepare your pets for winter.  Make sure your pets have warm and dry shelter available, especially at night when temperatures can be bitterly cold.  Make sure they have fresh water available.  If dishes are left outside, water can easily turn to ice.  If you are taking your pets on walks, make sure their feet and fur stay dry if temperatures are near freezing.  And when you are winter proofing your items, keep these things in mind…  If you are changing antifreeze in your car, wipe up any spills as it is very toxic to pets.  Salting your driveway or walkway may be a necessity, but rock salt is damaging to pet’s paws.  Treat your pets like the family members they are.  For generations we have domesticated animals; and your pets should not be considered wild animals that can fend for themselves.

Protect Your Dog in Winter Season

Every winter season, pet-owners are starting to buy things that would make their pets warm and cozy. These winter materials are very important especially for dogs. You really need to keep them warm because cold season can be dangerous for them. And, there are a lot of winter materials that you can provide to your dog, and here are some examples:

  • A/C dog units – which can keep your dog body temperature at fair level or keep your dog warm
  • Dog’s winter outfits – colorful sweater and jacket are very attractive during winter season. They come with different styles and sizes and they are made up with a good quality of cloths, such as knits, cottons, twills and also swindle. Choose outfits that would make your pet warmer.
  • Booties – have your dog wear boots. This will protect the feet, especially their paws from freezing which causes irritation.
  • Clean – up – brushing is essential during cold season. You should also trim your dog’s fur in the toes and belly.
  • Proper food – feed them with additional food. This is another way to keep his body warm.
  • Beddings – provide them with comforter or blanket that is also specifically created for winter season. This will give them cozier and warmer feeling.
  • Heating pads – this is also important if your dog just want to lie down. This is also portable which you can carry anywhere, any time.

These are some of the things that you can give to your pet during the winter. By providing these winter materials, you are assured that your dog will be in a good condition for the rest of the winter months. Make sure to put safety first before the outfit’s style. Your pet will be grateful to you for you have given him the sign of comfort and love.
