Horses are very sensitive by nature and as such, must be trained in a very delicate manner. Each individual horse has its own personality and will react differently to environments and techniques. Always play to the horse’s cognitive abilities and be patient. Do just enough to stay in control of your pet. If your horse is scared, it will not obey your commands and will look for an exit route. Use easy to understand signals and avoid training in unfamiliar environments or around other animals. Also, horses must be trained bilaterally. Horses that are trained in eyesight of just one eye will not recognize training if signals are given in the opposite field of vision.
