Signs of illness in your dog

If your dog is suddenly behaving a little differently than normal, it might be a sign of illness.  There was a food recall in which a pet food had too much Vitamin D.  The nutrient was causing symptoms such as increased thirst and urination, along with a loss of appetite and weight loss.  Vitamin d toxicity was not diagnosed until pet owners reported subtle changes in their dogs.

Diabetes in cats

As we head into the holidays and consume volumes of fatty foods and sweets, obesity and diabetes come to mind.  While they are increasing in humans, obesity and diabetes are increasing in cats as well.  Signs of diabetes include increased thirst, urination, and appetite, with a loss of energy.  There may also be sudden weight loss.  Cats should be examined at least once per year; twice if they are seven or older.
