Hi, my 95 pound German Shepherd had TPLO surgery for her knee four and a half weeks ago. Now my two year old nephew will be coming to visit our house for six days…unfortunately she (my German Shepherd) is very sensitive to noise coming from the floor above her, which is where my nephew will be. She usually responds by getting up and moving around and trying to find a safe/quiet place, and I am concerned that she will hurt her leg in doing so.

I’m going to do everything I can to keep things quiet for her, but I’ve had my vet prescribe some Acepromazine to help keep her calm and hopefully not moving around too much. My question is about the dosage of this tranquilizer as my vet says he has never had anyone use it for longer than one or two days. I am going to start my girl at a low dose – one 25mg pill twice per day to get her through the twelve hours that my nephew is active. I thought I might go up to two pills twice per day if needed, but I’m not sure how high a dosage would be safe given that she would probably need to take this medication for six whole days. What’s the maximum dosage I can safely give her each time over the course of these six days?
