Here, are some basic tips for home grooming for you to follow in attending to the grooming needs of your dog in bathing. In bathing your dog, the first thing you should do is to prepare the supplies that you need including the bathtub. Gather bath supplies such as the dog shampoo, towel, bucket and hair dryer. Bring your dog to the bath area or bathroom and bathe them in the tub. Use a bucket to pour water in their body or use a hose with a sprayer. Use medicated shampoos for fleas and ticks that are recommended by your veterinarian. You can use a shampoo with a sweet scent; this is suitable for dogs that have sensitive skin. Precautions: do not use dish soaps and shampoos intended for humans that might cause skin irritations of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for shampoos that are intended to dogs to avoid future problems. Pour water gently on the body and apply shampoo. Avoid getting the shampoo on their eyes.

Massage the body, and rinse with water until the shampoo is gone. Wipe them using a towel. Assess the body, parts of your dog especially the ears for the presence of moisture or wax wherein bacteria can reside and can develop to ear infections. Use a hair dryer in a medium setting in about 5-6 inches from its fur. The distance of the dryer is necessary to avoid burning its fur. Continue drying until the fur are about to dry. Reasons Why Pets Are Put Up For Adoption

There are so many pets that are homeless nowadays.Eight to ten million of dogs and cats get come to shelters yearly, as pet the records of the United States Humane Society.As a matter of fact a shocking number of 4 to 5 million dogs and cats are being euthanized at these shelters.The cause?As there is not enough demand at shelters for the adoption of pets. 

These figures do not include those in small, local and home-based shelters.Animal rescue orgaiztions are there too which takes care of abandoned and ill-treated animals.  There are also hundred of animals left to stray in the streets.

Due to various reasons pets end up at a shelter.  There are pets that are abused and hurt by their owners thinking that this is another form of training and discipline among their pets.  Animals victims of these extreme cased can be rescued and if the animals are not showing any behavioural problems, may be put up for adoption. 

Another reason why there are so many animals in shelters is because there are more and more animals straying or roaming around.  There are guardians who let their pets roam outside their premises and never bother to look for them once they are gone.  Also these animals do not have any identification tags. Because of this it is hard to give them back to its owners. 

The most common reason that an animal shelter can hear from pet parents surrendering their pets is that they are moving.  There are guardians who do not want to pay to transport their pets, guardians moving to apartments not allowing pets inside, guardians who do not want to pay a pet deposit, and many more.  It is important to remember that pets are not old pieces of furniture that can be left behind just because you can buy another one.  Pets are living things that have repaid us with loyalty and devotion. 

Having a baby is another reason why pet parent give up their pets for adoption.  SPOT  (Stopping Pet Overpopulation Society, Inc), an alliance of animal lovers, dog/cats rescuers and veterinarians in Atlanta,  recommends that people have their family first then adopt a pet.  If it is not possible, then it is best to pick a breed or mixed bred that is known to be good with children. 

It is important to remember before getting a pet that they require attention, time and money.  There are pet parents surrendering their pets because they can no longer provide time to take care of them.  Also others may find it too expensive to raise and take care a pet.It is essential to know that owning a pet is a commitment which you are ready to take and you become liable in this regard for the upcoming ten to fifteen years.

Behavioural problems is also another reason for giving up a pet. Too much barking, chewing everything, too hyper or aggressiveness of the pets are the common cited behavioural problems cited.  Of course, dogs who did not undergo obedience training will be rambunctious and wild.Dogs who are not too social will be aggressive in behaviour against human beings or other animals. 

It is important for a parent to get a pet, only if, the parent wants it as much as the children want the animal.  Because if the children immediately lose interest on the pet, it is more likely that the unfortunate animal will be given up for adoption.  It is important to always ask yourself, a parent , before getting a pet the real reason for getting one.

There are also incidents that elderly guardians could no longer take care of their pets because of death or they would have to go to a nursing facility.  If the pet parent is already a senior citizen it is important to take into consideration the age of the pet and who will take care of it when the situation turn into worse.  If it is uncertain who will take care of the pet, it is best to adopt a pet that is already and wonderfully housebroken older dog. 

There are many reasons why pets are put up for adoption everyday.  It might be unfortunate events that happened to the pet parent or just avoidance of responsibility.It is essential to consider that whenever we are thinking of buying a pet, we are really ready for it and committed in caring of it.

About the American Staffordshire Terrier

Since the American Staffordshire Terrier is famous for its fighting ability, it is no wonder that this powerful breed has a muscular build. However, there is much more to this breed than its unfortunate heritage as an aggressive fighter. Many Staffordshire Terrier lovers praise this breed’s affectionate and loyal family nature.

The Staffordshire Terrier was developed by crossing the Bulldog and several terriers. The ancestors of today’s dog were known as the Bull-and-Terrier Dog, Half and Half, and at times Pit Dog or Pit Bull Terrier. This breed was later given the name Staffordshire Terrier, after the English Region of Staffordshire where it was first developed.

It was not until 1870 that these dogs were brought to America. American Breeders preferred this strong, agile breed as a fighting dog and worked to increase the weight of the dog. They also concentrated on enlarging the breed’s head size. When dog fighting became illegal in the USA, American breeders developed two strains of the Staffordshire Terrier.

One strain was developed as a show dog that is today’s American Staffordshire Terrier. The other strain was developed as a fighting dog and is classified as the American Pit Bull Terrier. Despite the best efforts of animal control officials and animal lovers, the American Pit Bull Terrier is still used as an illegal fighting dog in North America.

The Staffordshire Terriers were first accepted for registration in the AKC in 1936, as members of the Terrier group. The name of the breed was officially revised in 1972 to American Staffordshire Terrier. At this time, the AKC made a distinction between the Staffordshire Bull Terrier of England and the American Staffordshire Terrier.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is a very muscular and powerful dog with a large bone structure. This solidly built breed weighs between 57-67 pounds. While this breed may have the look and build of a fighter, it is actually very loving and protective of its family.

American Staffordshire Terriers are not ideal apartment dogs, but they will survive in this situation if the owner of this active breed has the energy and stamina to keep up with the dog. These dogs are very active, so will need to take frequent long walks.

A home with a securely fenced yard is a better fit for the breed. However, the Staffordshire Terrier is sensitive to cold and does need to have a warm environment, so during winter months you should be prepared to bring your dog indoors after it burns off some energy with a romp in the yard.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is a gentle happy, outgoing dog. This breed plays well with children and relates well to adults. However, you should never leave young children or other pets in an unsupervised situation with any big, strong dog.

These dogs make excellent guard dogs, since they are territorial and very protective. The breed’s original fighting qualities are still evident toward enemies and intruders to the owner’s property. These dogs should be socialized so they accept guests and other animals. Early training, while your dog is still a puppy and you are stronger, is a must. This dog lives to please its owner, but may be hard to housebreak.

The American Staffordshire breed is generally healthy. However, this breed should receive yearly health screenings to rule out some hereditary traits like cataracts and congenital heart disease. These dogs are also prone to hip dysplasia, so be sure to ask your breeder if the parents have been screened for this hereditary trait, as well.

The short coat of the American Staffordshire Terrier is easy to groom. Brushing your dog’s coat on a regular basis to remove loose hair should suffice, since the breed does not shed profusely. You should also brush its teeth once a day and clip its nails if they don’t wear down on their own.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is a protective and loving dog that will wholeheartedly protect its beloved family. These characteristics may just make this breed an excellent choice for you.
