i brush my dogs teeth once a week but u can get them scaled at like a grooming place call around and ask if they have someone that does teeth scaleing and it’ll b waaaaaay cheaper than a vets
not necessarily. If you have the time to then do it, but if not atleast try to do it once or twice a week. Especially if they have teeth problems already it is important to brush them.
I never brush my dogs teeth and we have never had a dog with teeth problems. i brush my dog after swimming (he swims a lot) and thats about it in the grooming department. I check him over looking at his teeth and his hind end and such though.
You should do it about once or twice a week, but if your dog is like mine and growls at you when you get near, then try giving them teeth-cleaning chews. they’re in asda all the time.
your 7 year old will probably need a dental done. but yes if your going to brush your dogs teeth then you need to do it daily for it to make a difference. you and your dogs teeth are very alike, they need the same daily care. you know when you don’t brush for a while that nasty stuff that builds up on your teeth and you can feel it with your tounge. well you brush that off every night. your dogs don’t. so that nasty stuff stays with them for the rest of your life. if you don’t want to brush there teeth every day, just make sure to get them dentals, and give them those greenie bones as treats! they help
your dogs may be eating properly but there teeth my still hurt, they have the option of there teeth hurting and being full, or having painful teeth and being hungry
Although brushing their teeth daily is the best, I know very few people who do, and I know lots of people, including vets, tech, trainers, etc. I use Oxyfresh Pet Oral Hygiene Solution in their drinking water to reduce the buildup of plaque and tartar, and my dogs have great teeth.
It takes 3 days for plaque to harden on teeth, so brushing once or twice a week is pointless. Every other day would be excellent (if your dogs allow it).
You can also get dentals done by your vet. They are usually done once or twice a year under anesthetic. It is pricey. If your dogs are cooperative, cleanings can be done without the anesthetic for cheaper.
You can give toys and treats that help clean the teeth. I wouldn’t use Greenies because dogs have been known to choke on them. But raw meaty bones, bully sticks, nylabones, and other “dental” toys can be used. There is this toy that lets the dog brush it’s own teeth. I haven’t used it, so I can’t say if it works.
